The Best Sunglasses for your Face Shape

A handy sunglasses chart

Now that the sun is getting brighter and hotter, it’s time to break out the sunglasses. Sunglasses aren’t only a fashion statement; they are a practical form of eye protection. We expose our skin to the sun and think nothing of slathering on sunscreen for protection, but what our eyes? Your eyes need protection from the sun also. A good pair of sunglasses will protect your eyes from the sun’s UV rays and keep squinting to a minimum. No one wants to get wrinkles early.

There are charts that help us pick the right sunglasses for our faces based on the shape. Those with an angular face or strong jaw may find round or oval frames the most flattering. While the adverse is true of those with a round face, look for frames with angles or geometric shaped frames to sharpen facial features. Those with a diamond shaped face want to highlight their cheekbones. This can be done with glasses that sweep upward, think cat’s eye, or frameless glasses.

You can't go wrong with Ray Ban Wayfarers

The heart shaped face needs to broaden the upper portion of their face so look for a frame that is bottom heavy. The frame must draw the eye downward. Of course the opposite is true of those with a triangular face. You need to find frames that draw the eye upward. Look for top heavy frames or frames that draw the eye inward to balance your face. Those of you who have a narrow or oblong face need to add width. You can go with the Hollywood starlet incognito glasses. Look for broad glasses with an accented top rim or accents at the temple.

If you have an oval face, good for you, you can wear anything you like, this is the perfect face shape for any pair of sunglasses on the market. A couple of sunglass frames that work well on many different face shapes are the Ray Ban Wayfarer and aviator style. Pick aviator style frames that are not too exaggerated for the best look. Since I wear my sunglasses all year round I opted for a more expensive pair with good UV and UVB rays. Consider it an investment in your vision.

The Ray Ban Aviator are also a classic
