Guilty Pleasures

Indulge in a new lipstick

This is the time of year to indulge in guilty pleasures. It’s those little things that make us happy. Your guilty pleasure doesn’t have to correspond to another’s guilty pleasure. It can be unique and as individual as you are, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact many guilty pleasures are free. Listening to Christmas songs on the radio or any other artist that is deemed sugar coated can be a guilty pleasure, think Barry Manilow or Taylor Swift.


Some of my favorite guilty pleasures involve food. Peppermint bark, peppermint ice cream and sugar cookies all top my list. Some of these things are only available during this time of year. Sometimes it’s just the freedom to indulge without all the usual guilt associated with having a treat or two or three. There are also a lot of free treats hanging around. I went to my dentist’s office for a teeth cleaning and they had a plate of chocolate covered cookies in the lobby, yum!

 Have a special treat

For the fashion conscious the addition of a bright lipstick color or nail polish can fulfill their guilty pleasure list. These little items are generally inexpensive and make us feel extra special. What girl doesn’t want a new lipstick? It’s even more fun when the lipstick comes in a deep hue. Something that says “I’m party ready,” bright red or deep burgundies are all the rage this time of year. Why not try one out?


So have some fun this weekend and indulge yourself a little. Whether it’s trying a new lipstick color, having an edible treat or maybe sitting by the fireplace and reading a free romance novel you downloaded on your e-reader, take the time to do something that you truly enjoy. We’re all so busy right now it seems like we place ourselves on the back burner of life.  Don’t get sucked into the rat race of the season, slowdown, indulge a little and take some mental health time, find your guilty pleasure.
